Two School of Education events kicked off Colorado State University's Spring 2017 graduation weekend. Both events, held at The Ranch Events Complex in Loveland, recognized and celebrated the hard work and accomplishments of the School's Spring and Summer 2017 graduates.
CEP cords teacher and principal licensure candidates
On Thursday, May 11, the School's Center for Educator Preparation held its cording ceremony, where each graduating teacher or principal licensure candidate received a light-blue cord to identify the student as an educator among peers in their respective content areas. CEP draws students from across CSU from a variety of majors who want to become educators in their future careers.
Each graduating student selected a person to join them on stage and place the cord around the student's shoulders. Most students selected someone who played an important role during their time in the Teacher Preparation or Principal Preparation program such as a cooperating or mentor teacher, an adviser, a student-teaching supervisor, an administrator, a faculty member, a family member, or a friend.
Additionally, the ceremony recognized scholarship recipients, including five Noyce scholarship recipients, and those who recently received awards from outside organizations including the Colorado Department of Higher Education and the Colorado Council for the Social Studies.
Students in the Teacher Preparation and Principal Preparation programs participate in the commencement ceremonies with fellow graduates in their respective content areas throughout graduation weekend.
SOE celebrates 155 graduate degree candidates
On Friday, May 12, the School of Education celebrated its Spring and Summer graduates, before the CSU Graduate School commencement at Moby Arena.
Family and friends of SOE master's and doctoral degree candidates enjoyed hors d'oeuvres while graduating students from each specialization appeared on the event stage. SOE faculty members honored each graduate, offering a congratulatory handshake and gift, along with well wishes for continued success in their respective fields.
The relief and excitement was palpable in the room, as attendees chatted, some cohort members meeting in-person for the first time after semesters of interacting or collaborating online. Graduates introduced their guests, many of whom made up the graduates' non-academic support systems throughout their time as post-graduate students, to their advisers and other faculty members.
Once the formalities had dispensed, attendees enjoyed the first-ever SOE Photo Booth, taking photos with graduation-themed props in front of a CSU backdrop.
